I believe I illustrated this when I upgraded to a new laptop and wanted to test its feel.

It’s a picture of my friend who’s very cute, though a bit mischievous. So while I of course wanted to flatter him with a picture he’d like, I made it a point to capture what I will endearingly call his little bastard energy. So I made him look a bit freaky.

This piece was full of fun experimentation for me.

Having spent so much time learning the power of basic shapes within my chaos to order paintings.

Here I was starting with a drawing again.

I decided to mix line driven work with painterly strokes. Fading in and out between cel shade and more involved rendering. I would also experiment with screentones.

The friend’s nickname is Kero. Derived from Kerosene. With that in mind I wrote the chemical formula for kerosene backwards across his upside down cheek.

I’m quite happy with how it turned out, Kero thankfully was too when presented to him.
