Thematically choosing to leave this undisclosed but visually speaking, it’s inspired by a panel from what was basically a kaiju battle in the manga BLAME!
I found the imagery of a semi-obscured and gigantic face moving through a smog to be pretty striking. So I used it as inspiration for something that has an entirely different context, again though. Remaining undisclosed about what any of that context could be.
The Parade People return! More of them than ever in any of my works. Among them being a familiar one on the far right.
The characters were all drawn and much like my most previous work, prior to this one, they were sort of a patience testing task with the amount of them. However this time it was easier considering the zoomed out perspective.
The fog was several layers of airbrushed as well as cel-shaded clouds, that were then painted on top of, across many different layers. Layers that then had their contrast and brightness messed with, along with some extra glow effects to contrast the darker shadows.
That’s become a real cornerstone of my style, mimicking the excessive bloom seen in early digital cameras, animation and 2000s video games. Though it sometimes looks more like film halation, which is also a plus. I love BLOOM. I love CONTRAST. Seriously though, that might be my favourite part of the drawing process.
The effects work right at the end, it brings so much together and is easy to do.
